Tasting Notes
A concentrated rich and full wine with flavours of spices, creamy dark fruit and a smoky undertone.
The 1999 Shiraz was the Maiden vintage for Uiterwyk Wine Estate, and is the only Shiraz in South Africa made in true Northern Rhone tradition where Viognier is added to develop a softer more fragrant style.
Blend Information
Shiraz fermented on Viognier lees
In The Vineyard
The DeWaal Shiraz is produced from a 25-year-old vineyard grown on gravel and loam soil. This single vineyard only produced 200 cases.
In The Cellar
The wine received 14 days maceration for optimum extract of flavours and colours from the skins. Maturation for 18 months in 40% new French barriques.
